GPA Calculation Guide
Letter Grade Conversion
Each letter grade corresponds to a numerical value on the GPA scale. Honors and AP/IB courses may have different scales.
Calculate Quality Points
For each course, multiply the grade points by the credit hours. Honors courses typically add 0.5 points, while AP/IB courses add 1.0 point to the grade value.
Example 1: A “B+” (3.3) in a regular 4-credit course = 3.3 × 4 = 13.2 quality points
Example 2: An “A” (4.0 + 1.0) in an AP 4-credit course = 5.0 × 4 = 20 quality points
Sum Your Totals
Add up all quality points and all credit hours across your courses.
Example: 56.8 quality points + 42.5 quality points = 99.3 total quality points
16 credits + 12 credits = 28 total credit hours
Final Calculation
Divide total quality points by total credit hours to get your GPA:
Formula: GPA = Total Quality Points ÷ Total Credit Hours
Example: 99.3 quality points ÷ 28 credits = 3.55 GPA
